Club Programs
Juniors
We have classes that run on Tuesdays and Thursday at the club for the 6-13 age group. This is split into two sessions: A recreational class for new boxers or those that do not wish to spar and a sparring group, for those that have the requisite skills to spar and do tech work.
Seniors
We have classes that run on a Tuesday and Thursday. They are mixed classes involving fitness, tech work and sparring. There is no pressure to spar so keep fitters are welcome to train alongside our boxers without getting punched in the face ! We also run periodic Monday night sessions for our competitive squad only.
Ladies Only
We have a ladies only class that runs on a Monday evening. This class involves fitness and some light tech work. At our ladies class you will follow the same fitness session plan as our competitve squad and will learn the fundamentals of boxing, from defences to punch combinations.
Mixed Adult Fitness
This class is for both men and women that wish to improve their fitness and boxing skill set. Like the ladies class, the Saturday session is similar in style to our competitive class, whilst the Wednesday early-bird with Lois is a short sharp fitness only session.
Benefits of Boxing
Enhanced Cardiovascular Health and Improved Body Strength and Body Composition
Several high profile studies point to evidence that suggest boxing is THE best sport for all over cardiovascular fitness. The amount of time a boxer spends in the ‘red zone’ is greater than in any other sport whilst also requiring strength, speed and agility. Our tried and tested circuit sessions are designed to meet the requirements of boxing – high intensity endurance, speed, strength and flexibility. Boxers tend to have very low body fat and high lean muscle mass meaning it is an excellent way of improving your body composition.
Improved Mental Wellbeing
Studies have shown that vigorous exercise, and in particular boxing, can help to alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety and even help those living with ADHD or behavioral issues. We have heard several success stories from our members on how boxing has improved their wellbeing – from the simple stress reliever of punching a heavy bag, to giving confidence to bullied kids.
Social Benefit
Alt Beartown we are family friendly and endeavor to promote a community feel in all of our classes. Many of our members have become firm friends outside of the gym, many train together and socialise out of the club.
